The News
Equinix reported third-quarter 2026 results, posting revenues of $2.571 billion, up 11% year over year, alongside record annualized gross bookings of $533 million, a 35% increase from the prior year period. The company grew monthly recurring revenue at a double-digit pace for the fourth consecutive quarter and raised its full-year 2026 guidance for the third straight quarter. Equinix also introduced two new platform offerings during the quarter: Equinix Fabric One, an any-to-any connectivity service built to simplify multi-cloud and AI networking, and Equinix Inference Exchange, developed in collaboration with NVIDIA and Together AI to support enterprise AI inferencing at scale.
Analyst Take
The AI infrastructure bet is paying off faster than expected
Record bookings, accelerating interconnection revenue, and nearly 40% more cabinets than originally planned for 2026 delivery all point to a company that has correctly positioned itself at the intersection of two compounding forces: the continued enterprise migration to hybrid cloud and the explosive growth of AI inference workloads. Fabric revenue growing 24% year over year on a normalized constant currency basis is especially telling. Interconnection has historically been Equinix’s most defensible moat, and that business is now accelerating, not plateauing.
The Inference Exchange announcement, built with NVIDIA and Together AI, is strategically significant. Enterprises don’t just need compute for AI; they need low-latency, high-throughput paths between models, data, and downstream applications. Equinix sits at precisely that choke point. The company isn’t training foundation models. It’s building the plumbing that makes running and connecting those models economically viable at enterprise scale. That’s a better business than hosting the model itself.
What this means for enterprise buyers
For ITDMs evaluating infrastructure strategy, Equinix’s results validate a broader architectural shift: AI workloads are driving infrastructure decisions in ways that general-purpose hyperscaler deployments alone cannot satisfy. The need for deterministic, low-latency interconnection between cloud environments, on-premises systems, and AI inference endpoints is real, and it’s growing. Equinix Fabric One, with AWS and Google Cloud as lead integration partners, is a direct response to enterprise demand for simplified multi-cloud networking without sacrificing performance or security.
For developers and platform engineers, the EPIC program (Enhanced Performance Innovation Centers) deserves attention. Production-ready liquid cooling environments for high-density AI infrastructure, co-located with technology partners, lower the barrier to validating and deploying GPU-intensive workloads without building proprietary facilities. That’s a meaningful reduction in time-to-production for teams working on inference-heavy applications. ECI Research’s Google GovTech Survey found that 47.2% of respondents selected “Developer velocity and ease of integration” as the greatest weight in their final technical selection process, even after baseline security requirements are met. Equinix’s direction with Fabric One and EPIC maps directly to that priority: remove friction between the infrastructure layer and the application layer.
The procurement and capacity signal
Equinix raising full-year guidance for the third consecutive quarter is not a minor detail. It signals that booking velocity and pricing strength are both holding, which runs counter to the narrative that AI infrastructure demand is speculative or front-loaded. The atNorth investment and the Georgia and Texas infrastructure commitments further indicate that Equinix is making long-duration bets on capacity in specific geographies, funding grid infrastructure costs itself in Georgia rather than passing them to ratepayers. That’s an unusual move for a REIT-structured company and signals confidence in sustained demand at those sites.
One constraint worth watching is the cost structure. Total capital expenditures for 2026 are guided at $5 to $6 billion. That’s a wide range reflecting real execution risk. Building high-density, liquid-cooled environments at speed introduces supply chain exposure, permitting complexity, and power procurement challenges that standard colocation builds don’t face. ECI Research’s Google GovTech Survey also found that 55.4% of respondents reported that 26% to 50% of their application development budget is consumed by maintaining legacy technical debt, a dynamic that indirectly pressures enterprise buyers to prioritize infrastructure investments that reduce operational drag rather than compound it. Equinix’s pitch, at its core, is that its ecosystem reduces that drag at the connectivity layer.
Looking Ahead
Equinix enters Q4 2026 with guidance pointing to revenues between $2.684 and $2.724 billion and an adjusted EBITDA margin of approximately 51% for the full year. That margin trajectory matters as much as the top-line growth. If Equinix can hold or expand margins while absorbing the capital intensity of AI-ready infrastructure buildout, it will have demonstrated that the colocation model scales into the AI era without structural deterioration. The company’s move to fund grid costs directly in Georgia and advance responsible infrastructure standards in Texas suggests management is aware that community and regulatory friction is the most underpriced risk in data center expansion.
Over the next 12 to 18 months, the real test for Equinix will be whether Fabric One and Inference Exchange convert from product announcements into meaningful revenue contributors. The interconnection business is already growing at 24% on Fabric. The question is whether enterprise customers, particularly those building production AI pipelines across hybrid environments, consolidate their connectivity spend around Equinix’s ecosystem or spread it across competing platforms. Given the ecosystem lock-in dynamics inherent in interconnection, and the increasing complexity of managing AI inference across distributed infrastructure, Equinix’s position looks structurally advantaged. The company has the right assets in the right places at the right moment.
