The arrival of generative AI workloads has added a fifth layer that most security teams aren’t equipped to govern. The result is fragmented accountability, where no single vendor owns the outcome when something goes wrong across layers.

This matters acutely in sectors where compliance and operational continuity are existential concerns. ECI Research’s 2024 Google GovTech Survey found that 56.0% of respondents cited “lack of shared security context between on-premises systems and cloud platforms” as the biggest barrier to achieving a unified view of their application security posture across multi-cloud or hybrid environments. A further 21.8% pointed to “too many disconnected security tools causing alert fatigue.” Together, those two responses describe the exact customer problem Globalgig is trying to solve with a consolidated managed model.

The AI security layer is the differentiator that carries the most risk

Globalgig’s inclusion of AI governance and runtime protection as a discrete managed service layer is the most forward-leaning element of this announcement. AI security as a managed discipline is still nascent. Controls for generative AI usage, prompt injection defense, and model output monitoring are areas where tooling is maturing rapidly but where few MSSPs have operationalized repeatable processes at scale.

That said, the demand signal is real. ECI Research’s Google GovTech Survey found that 31.8% of respondents identified “FedRAMP/compliance approval friction for AI vendors” as the single largest blocker preventing widespread AI adoption in developer workflows. The implication is that organizations want AI capabilities badly enough that compliance friction is the primary constraint, not skepticism about AI’s value. A managed provider that can pre-navigate that compliance burden on behalf of customers, and bundle AI security governance into an existing MSSP relationship, has a genuine opening.

Looking Ahead

Globalgig is making a structural argument: that enterprise security accountability must consolidate, and that managed service providers who can credibly cover the full attack surface will displace the multi-vendor patchwork model. That argument will gain traction over the next 12 to 24 months as AI workloads move from pilot to production and boards begin demanding clearer lines of accountability for AI-related risk. The vendors who will win in this environment are those who can demonstrate integrated telemetry across layers, not just a shared logo on a slide deck.

The near-term competitive pressure on Globalgig comes from two directions: the large MSSPs who are consolidating similar stacks through acquisition, and the hyperscalers who are embedding security natively into their managed infrastructure offers.
